When Nature Calls

Roaming around the small single lane roads of New Zealand Laurence kept thinking that there might be a highway right around the corner. It took six days to see their first truck. They didn't see any sign of industrial development until they got to Hokitika (on the seventh day). What they did see what one amazing natural splendor after another. In constant state of "wow" the family was stunned as it was in awe. Walter noted, at some moment, that New Zealand wasn't like he expected. Laurence turned to him and answered, "what do you mean, all the postcards are just like this". Walter kept his gaze on the nature surrounding them and the care veered back and forth through the beech forest, "yes, you expect that just off the postcard there is a less beautiful place, like most countries, but New Zealand is just one big postcard image". And so it is. To be there is to find joy in simple things, like a stroll along a lake, or a chat with a dog-owner (with Irini leading the way straight to her canine friend), or to just look around at a country where it is obvious that, somewhere, sometime, everyone decided that nature was important and that it should be appreciated and sustained for the future of our children. Now there is a story we could all learn from.
