It began innocently enough, with Irini coming home from Buzzy Bee with little songs to sing, usually just a line of a well-known children's song like "Itsy Bitsy Spider" or "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". Then things became more serious... She came home with more lyrics. Then came home with some little dance moves. Then the 'wow' moment when she began her first in-house performance of "Nobody but You". Then, at about the beginning of April, the vocal and dance floodgates opened up. If one was a fly on our wall in the apartment he/she might think that Irini was going to take part in a good 20 or so acts. Laurence was convinced she was.
When we got to the end-of-term show we realized that Irini had, over the course of the final two weeks of the term, pretty much learned every lyric of every song there was. From Waka Waka to Mr. Sun (the video of which is below), Irini knew it all!
Once her three songs were up, she sat in the front, as instructed, and listened to all the other songs, silently and in a focused manner. No dancing moves like other kids. No singing along. Just watching patiently. Then, when she got home and the door opened up, it was like we were back in the small theater across from KLCC and Irini was a one-girl show, reciting each and every song (and accompanying dance) all over again.
We are proud as can be of our little star!!
Now, before you rush to push play on the video below, let us challenge you. Pretend you don't know who Irini is, but you have been told that just one kid in the entire group presenting is of Latin American decent. Can you find which one?
